RAYS BLANK YANKS BEHIND SIX STRONG FROM ACE ARCHER
Chris Archer tossed six shutout innings, striking out six while allowing four hits to pick up the 5-0 win for the Tampa Bay Rays on Opening Day. Steven Souza went 3-4 with a double, a run and an RBI to pace the bats. Masahiro Tanaka was not sharp in his 2017 debut, giving up 10 hits and five earned runs in only four innings of work.
GIANTS SPOIL D-BACKS OPENER IN 15 INNINGS
The pitchers duel between Madison Bumgarner and Zach Grienke never materialized as neither starter made it out of the 5th inning. This game was all about the bullpens as both teams used eight relievers. Joe Panik the hero with a three run blast in the top of the 15th to put the Giants in control. Arizona made it interesting with a pair of solo homers from Jake Lamb and Brandon Drury in the bottom half of the inning, but it wasn't enough. San Fran holds on for a 10-8 win on the road.
CUBS BEGIN TITLE DEFENSE WITH ROAD WIN AGAINST RIVAL CARDS
Anthony Rizzo went 3-5 with a HR, two runs and three RBI to propel the defending champs to a 7-3 victory over Sr.Louis in the season opener. Jon Lester pitched a solid six innings for the win, striking out seven while allowing just two earned runs. Wade Davis got the final five outs to pick up the save.
